Summit High School choir students enjoyed a once in a lifetime experience November 29 when they performed on stage at Carnegie Hall in New York.

The Distinguished Concerts International New York (DCINY) selected Summit as one of two high school choirs to perform at the historic venue after Summit Choir Director Jenna Elsberry submitted an audition recording.

“The experience of performing at Carnegie Hall simply cannot be put into words,” said Elsberry. “To stand where some of the finest musicians in the world have performed was just indescribable. We were able to perform with an incredible professional orchestra as well as four professional soloists. It truly was a remarkable experience performing in such a historic venue with such incredible talent.”

Approximately 50 choir students made the trip to the Big Apple. In addition to the performance at Carnegie Hall, students visited Central Park, the 9/11 Memorial Museum, Times Square, Lincoln Center and Grand Central Station. They also made a trip to Broadway to watch the musical Aladdin.

Elsberry hopes experiences like this not only create great memories for her students but also instill a lifetime love of music.

“It has always been my desire to instill a passion for music in my students’ hearts, and I think this trip most definitely helped aid in that quest,” said Elsberry. “Regardless of whether they sing professionally, major in music or simply sing in a church choir, I want them to continue their musical careers in some form. I also hope the students gained valuable experiences in our rehearsals in NYC that they can bring back to the classroom. I have already seen incredible progress in the past two days because of this trip.”
