This week, the midpoint of the high school football regular season, is a crucial week for teams off to a poor or average start. A last chance to turn things around and create some hope of a playoff.
For Independence (2-2) and Franklin (1-3), both struggling this year after successful previous seasons, each team needs a win.
The Eagles, who will come to Franklin for the game, come in with a better trajectory than the Rebels. After somewhat stunning fans with two-straight losses to start the season, Independence won its last two games.
Its best game of the season was by far its most recent, on the road last week at Hillsboro High School. The Eagles won, putting up 49 points, in their best offensive game of the year.
First-year starting quarterback Nathan Cisco found his groove, playing a monster game. He threw for four touchdowns, 319 yards and only three incompletions on 21 attempts.
Franklin, also, after losing its first three games of the year, played its best game of the season last week.
The Rebels outgained McGavock 355 yards to 155 in their 34-7 win.
Quarterback Carter Hendry, threw for 81 yards but ran for another 73.
Of the two teams, Independence’s offense is much hotter. The Rebels are averaging about 15 points per game. The Rebels scored more points in their win last week than they had in the first three games of the season combined.
The Eagles, averaging 25 points a game, scored 77 of their 100 total points this year in the last two weeks.
