Ravenwood (7-1, 4-0) will be honoring its seniors this Friday night as they take on the Brentwood Bruins (3-5, 2-2) to return home this week. After a big win over district rival Franklin (7-1, 3-1) in overtime last week, the Raptors will be fired up and ready to go.
The 24-23 win over the Rebels in last week’s district match-up will, certainly, give the red-and-black the spark they are looking to carry over into “The Battle of the Woods.” Known to Williamson County locals, this rivalry has run long and hard through these two schools. Last year, Ravenwood suffered a 0-38 loss to the blue-and-gold and are looking for a comeback.
Last week, quarterback Avery Jankowski and Van Jefferson, being the duo they are, were unstoppable to the Rebels defense. The J&J duet connected on eight passes for over 130 yards and three TDs for the night.
With Brentwood coming off a big win against Summit (1-8, 0-5), 42-7, plus a bye the previous week, the blue-and-gold spirits will be tough to diminish. And Jankowski and Jefferson will need that go-to-play to fight off the Bruins.
Although Ravenwood has not had quite the schedule that Brentwood has faced this year, the Raptors have fought hard to keep a 7-1 record. Earlier in the season, Ravenwood fell in OT to John Overton, by just one-point. That is its one and only loss of the season and stands 4-0, putting them at the top of District 11.
Brentwood understands that in order to claim a seat in the play-offs, they will need to take a “W” from Ravenwood and Independence next week. Austin Wells had probably one of his most successful games in his high school career with three touchdowns in the first half.
Throughout the season, the Raptors have come across a few nail-biters. Centennial (4-4, 2-2) was a three-point game, Franklin was a 1-point game in overtime, LaVergne (2-6) was a three-pointer, and Overton was a one-point loss in OT. But none-the-less, the Raptors have fought constantly and prevailed each time.
If Ravenwood pulls a “W’ from under Brentwood’s belts, the Raptors will head over to Spartan territory and face Summit for the last regular game of the season and could, potentially, finish out 9-1 overall and 6-0 in District 11.
