The versatile Jackson Byrd came through for Father Ryan in the season opener.
The senior caught a long touchdown pass and threw another one, helping the Fighting Irish beat Overton, 35-12, in the season opener.
Playing just a stone’s throw down Franklin Road, Byrd put the hammer to Overton in the first half.
Byrd threw a 36-yard halfback option pass for a score, then caught one from Seamus O’Connell with 44 seconds left in the half.
That one put the Fighting Irish up, 28-6, and it was virtually over.
Overton scored the game’s first points off a fumble recovery at the Irish 3.
Father Ryan plays at powerful Brentwood Academy next week.
