St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Main Street in downtown Franklin hosted its 21st- annual “Blessing of the Animals” on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 2.

In the courtyard of the 510 West Main Street church, all kinds of animals from hamsters to horses were there.

The animals were blessed and received St. Francis- the patron saint of animals- medals.

The annual-blessing celebrates animals as “creations of god” and not just people’s pets, according to Laura Turner, who spoke at the event.

“It is an amazing event,” she said, pointing out that St. Paul’s was used as a stable for horses after the Battle of Franklin.
