Home Brentwood Step by Step: What if you have lice?

Step by Step: What if you have lice?

We haw done several posts on myths and facts surrounding lice, but haven’t dug into much practical advice.

So since it is officially a high-risk season, with outdoor recess and spring sports, here is step by step what to do, from recognizing symptoms to treatment to preventing a return infestation.

1. Know the symptoms
There are not always symptoms, but usually there are itching or skin bumps. By the time your child shows symptoms of lice, they’ve likely been infested for a few weeks. No need to panic.

2. Get professional opinion

So if you see symptoms or your child was sent home from school after a lice check, before anything else schedule a check with a lice professional to confirm: Head lice are very commonly misdiagnosed. The Lice Place in Brentwood says that nearly half of the clients they see think they have lice – but don’t! Nits are easily confused with things like dandruff, dirt or even drops of hairspray. Lice experts are trained to spot the difference. And, a head check from a professional may save you money in the long run in the instance that lice are not present.

3. Get treatment

If lice are present, also, a professional will be able to immediately set up treatment.
A treatment option like the Lice Place offers private and guaranteed treatment, as opposed to OTC methods, some of which can be expensive and ineffective at best and toxic and irritating to the skin at worst

Professionals use the Warner Method-  Method – a safe, non-toxic, pesticide-free method of combing and manual removal, we pick every nit and remove each louse

4. Once you’re back home.

Since lice can survive away from a human host for only about a day, there is no need to go crazy with laundry or throw away toys. Washing them once should be more than enough. And even that is not totally necessary as long as its been a day.

Thanks to the Lice Place in Cool Springs for providing the information for this post.
