Italian food is my favorite type of food. Who doesn’t love a delicious bowl of pasta or perfectly baked pizza or the light, sweet taste of gelato? I have enjoyed many Italian restaurants in Williamson County but one of my all time favorites is Porta Via.
Porta Via offers northern Italian cuisine in a genuine Italian atmosphere. The menu is divided by zuppa (soup), antipasti dishes, paninis, insalata (salad), pasta, entrees, pizze and, of course, dolci (dessert). There are so many good things on the menu, I recommend visiting Porta Via with friends or family and passing your plates around for sharing.
Not one item on the menu has disappointed me but I do have a few personal favorites. The Fettuccine Al Pesto is superb. If you enjoy pesto, this is the dish for you. The pesto is fresh and flavorful and this dish is very filling. I also enjoy the Spaghetti Carbonara, which is egg and pancetta (Italian ham). If you’ve never had pancetta before, it is pork belly meat that is salt cured and contains peppercorns. Porta Via is the place to order pancetta. The pancetta makes this spaghetti dish extraordinary and it doesn’t taste like any spaghetti you’ve ever had.
You can not go wrong with their Margherita Pizze. I’ve had Margherita pizza at several restaurants but when the ingredients are in the hands of true Italian chefs, the pizza takes on all new flavors. At Porta Via, you can create your own Margherita pizza by adding anything from mushrooms to pine nuts to salami.
Whatever you do, save room for dessert! What is an Italian dining experience without Tiramisu or Gelato? You can order a scoop or two of any flavor Gelato. Again, I recommend, sharing with your friends or family to get a taste of several flavors.
From the extensive wine list (and staff who can direct you in regards to ordering wine) to the menu full of Italian words, you’ll feel as though you’re in Italy.
Porta Via is a great place for a date night, for girl’s night out or for the whole family. True Italian restaurants strive to create a welcoming atmosphere, as getting together to share food and conversation is a huge part of the Italian culture. Porta Via does just that.
