Join Local Heroes in Support of the GWOT Wall Thursday, October 10th

Local Heroes Vodka entrepreneur Travis McVey asks that we all visit the Global War on Terror Wall of Remembrance this Thursday, October 10th. The government shut-down has not affected the memorial and full access will be available for you to come out and show your support. “Being a Marine Corps Veteran and having lost a close friend in Afghanistan to the War on Terror makes it very personal for me,” said McVey.

GWOTThe wall is 100 feet long and 6 feet high. It will be displayed at Riverfront Park. Opening ceremonies will be at 6:30 p.m. There will be a Wreath Laying Ceremony and a Candle Light Vigil with a reading of fallen heroes. McVey will be reading the names from the wall whose home was in Tennessee during the memorial presentation. “I thought it would be appropriate to pay a special tribute to our residents who paid the ultimate sacrifice. Many of their family members and friends will be there and it will mean a lot to them to show that we as Tennesseans and Americans have not and will not forget the sacrifices that have been made. As a State we have a long tradition of serving our Country. With little notice, these citizen-soldiers left their jobs and families, laying the cornerstone for Tennessee’s ‘Volunteer’ tradition.”

“To me this wall represents the Honor, Strength, Courage, Commitment, Loyalty and Family Values of America and the price that is paid for our freedom. The names on this wall come from the Global War on Terror. They are the Victims and the Heroes that lost their lives on 9/11 and the Military that was called to duty and paid the ultimate price. We need to come out and pay tribute and honor their memory and their sacrifice and to donate a few dollars to have a permanent Wall built in the very near future not years from now,” continued McVey.
