Game of the Week: Centennial Faces Riverdale

Centennial (2-3) hosts one of the best teams in Rutherford County—and the state—on Friday.

Riverdale (4-1) comes from Murfreesboro to Franklin for the game, coming off their first loss of the season after blowing through their first four games of the season. Two of those opponents were Williamson County teams—Franklin fell 24-7 in week two and two weeks ago Spring Hill, who’d been destroying opponents, got practically blown out 49-24.

Centennial, coming off its second win of the season after dropping three straight after opening the season with a win at Ravenwood, faces a critical test.

A loss would drop the Cougars to 2-4 on the year with just four games left. A loss, then, could hurt their playoff hopes.

Centennial has been able to put points up, and scored a season – high 46 last week in its win at Dickson County.

But their real issue has been on defense. They gave up 28, 28, 56, and 23 before allowing just 14 last week.

Riverdale, on the other hand, before getting blown out by Oakland, one of the best teams in the state, last week 43-14, had held teams to single-digits twice and then just 14 and 24 in their other two wins.

Centennial will play its best opponent of the year, but will at least have home-field advantage, and the Cougars face their toughest test in their most important game of the year.
