Brentwood Academy quarterback Gavin Schoenwald accounted for three touchdowns, and the BA defense forced key turnovers, as the Eagles beat Father Ryan, 38-13, on Saturday.

Two of Schoenwald’s scores were touchdown passes to fellow Vanderbilt commitment Camron Johnson.

With the Eagles clinging to a one-point lead, Johnson caught a 40-yard pass from Schoenald, the point-after putting BA up 21-13 with three seconds left in the third quarter.

BA defensive back Daniel Taylor then picked off a pass and returned it to the Irish 15 minutes later. A four-yard scoring run by Tomario Pleasant two plays later added to the lead.

BA led 14-0 early, but a 47-yard score by Wyatt Rector had the Fighting Irish down seven at half.

Late in the third quarter, a 53-yard fumble return by Austin Crow for a touchdown brought Father Ryan within a point after a two-point conversion failed.

That was the fourth lost fumble for the Eagles to that point of the night.

Pleasant had two running scores, including the game’s first points.

Kenyon Garlington, Michael Hunt and Luke Knox also registered interceptions for BA (2-0).

Brentwood Academy travels to Pope John Paul II next week, while Father Ryan (1-1) visits Stratford.
