Rita Jean Maxfield McClanahan Belcher, age 88, of Honaker, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, in the Williamson Medical Center, in Franklin, Tennessee.
She was born in Richlands, Virginia, on March 22, 1938, the daughter of the late Ed Maxfield and Chloa Iolet Singleton Maxfield. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra McClanahan; sister, Polly Honaker; brother, Paul Maxfield.
She graduated from Honaker High School and worked at a grocery store in Honaker. After completing cosmetology training in Bluefield, West Virginia, she operated a salon from her home. She enjoyed arts and crafts, canning, quilting, crocheting, tending her flowers, and farming. Most of all, she was a loving mother, grandmother, and sister who was well loved in her community. She was a member of Primitive Baptist Church in Artrip, Virginia.
Survivors include her son, Tim McClanahan and wife Ginger; grandchildren, Paul Asbury and wife Miranda, Gage Asbury and companion Samantha Hubbard, and Abigail Espinal and husband Johan; great grandchildren, Ashlynn Asbury, Wyatt Asbury, Elias Selfe, Johanna Violet Espinal, and Connor Asbury; siblings, Tony Maxfield, Linda Martin, Nina Harrison, and Diane Owens.
Honorary pallbearers will be Daniel Pickle, Noah Rasnake, Avery Rasnake, Chris Rasnake, and Amanda Dye.
Services will be private.
