OBITUARY: Elbert Overton Garner

Elbert Overton Garner, born July 28, 1936, in Sherwood, Tennessee, passed away at the age of 90 on August 1, 2026, in Franklin, Tennessee.

Elbert was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He proudly served his country as a Navy Hospital Corpsman. After his military service, he attended Tennessee Tech. His entire career was spent with Hospital Corporation of America (HCA).

He began at the first hospital acquired by HCA, in Livingston, Tennessee, in 1968, and worked his way up to Vice President of Design and Construction.

Elbert was an avid golfer, recording two holes-in-one. He was also a devoted reader and lifelong NASCAR fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruby Pearl Garner and J. L. Garner; his first wife, Fay Story Garner; his son, Marc Andrew Garner; his granddaughter, Kelsey Garner; and his grandson, Nic Garner.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Brenda H. Garner; his son, Gary O. Garner (Sharon); his daughter, Lucie Garner Phillips (Bobby); two grandsons, Jake Garner (Rachael) and Hayden Phillips; three great-grandsons, other family and friends.
