Police are encouraging residents to take extra precautions when sending checks through the mail. Safer options include paying electronically when possible, dropping checks off inside a local post office or using a secure USPS collection box before the final pickup of the day.

Residents who do mail checks are advised not to leave them in home mailboxes overnight or for long periods of time. Police also recommend regularly checking bank accounts for unauthorized activity and reporting any suspicious transactions immediately.

Anyone who notices suspicious activity around neighborhood mailboxes or believes they have been a victim of mail theft should contact the Franklin Police Department.
