AAHS Announces New Tour Hours for McLemore House Museum

McLemore House Museum

The African American Heritage Society is pleased and excited to announce the reopening of the McLemore House Museum (446 11th Ave., N., Franklin) with regularly scheduled hours of operation. Beginning on August 14, the museum will be open for tours from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

“We have an amazing team of volunteers to assist and serve as tour guides, sharing the rich history of the life of formerly enslaved Harvey McLemore and the “fuller” story of Williamson County,” states AAHS president, Alma McLemore.

Harvey, after becoming a free man, built his home (known as the McLemore House Museum) in 1880. He was a man of grit, determination, perseverance and resolve who wanted to create a better life for his family after experiencing the horrors of slavery and servitude.

Harvey’s story is a crucial thread in the fabric of our community’s rich history, and the African American Heritage Society looks forward to sharing it with the public beginning August 14. The entry fee of $10/adult, $5/child will help maintain this historic treasure.
