You’ve been exercising regularly for weeks, and you’re so proud of yourself. You’ve lost some weight and have even gained muscle. The only problem is, the weight loss has slowed, or stopped altogether. You’ve seemed to hit what’s become the dirty word in fitness – a “plateau.”
Niki Gauthier, owner of Niki G’s Fitness, says hitting a plateau means you’ve leveled off. “Your body has become accustomed to your fitness regimen and you are no longer progressing,” she says. According to Niki G, signs you’ve hit a fitness plateau include the following.
5 Signs You’ve Hit A Fitness Plateau:
- You’re Bored. Following the same exercise routine at the same time, and at the same place, every time you exercise gets boring and monotonous.
- The Scale Never Lies. You are trying to lose weight, and did so at first. Now that needle won’t budge. You are no longer seeing results.
- You’re Not Motivated. You aren’t seeing results any more; therefore, it’s harder to get yourself psyched-up to exercise. It’s easier to find excuses to find something else “more important” to do.
- What Soreness? If you’ve been performing the same exercises for 4 – 6 weeks and haven’t changed them up, your body is no longer being challenged. You need feel some soreness in those muscles to know you are doing some good.
- No Sweat. If you leave your work out looking like you just arrived, there’s a problem. It’s too easy. You are not getting your heart rate up high enough to get those sweat glands flowing.
“In order to reach your optimum fitness level, you must keep changing things up so you can progress – which includes cardio and resistance training,” says Niki G.
At Niki G’s Fitness variety is a key element. You will never to the same work out twice. Niki G’s Boot Camp is multi-dimensional and includes cardio drills, resistance training, stretching and plyometrics. Some classes are held in-studio or at gyms, while others are held outdoor, which adds further variety to your workout – while making it more fun too.
Niki G’s offers alternative ways of performing a drill to ensure you never get bored or hit a plateau. Each work out is designed with a purpose, with a focus on each muscle group planned on a rotating schedule so that you can attend class two days in a row if you choose. To help keep the workouts interesting, different theme weeks are incorporated as well.
