The Factory at Franklin is spotlighting another side of two well-known music figures with a new gallery installation featuring artwork by John Carter Cash and Jim Messina. Click for More Events
The exhibit, on display through the end of September, can be found on The Factory Gallery Wall outside Liberty Hall. Select pieces will also be available for purchase.
Curated by artist ShenShen in partnership with the Arts Council of Williamson County, the installation was designed to complement The Red Wheel songwriter series by featuring acclaimed musicians whose creativity extends beyond music and into visual art.
“That’s the beauty of Nashville—creativity doesn’t have to stay in one lane,” ShenShen said in a release. “I wanted to bring together artists whose creative voices reach beyond the music they’re known for and give people a chance to experience another side of their artistry.”
John Carter Cash is making his Factory Gallery debut with selections from his Dark Hallways collection. His paintings explore themes including memory, transition, resilience and emotion through recurring images of hallways, doors and corridors.
Cash, the son of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, has also built a career as a producer, musician, author and artist. He has earned two Grammy Awards and produced recordings for artists including Loretta Lynn, Willie Nelson, Sheryl Crow, Emmylou Harris and Brooks & Dunn.
Visitors may also have the opportunity to meet Cash during the Sept. 4 Art Crawl at The Factory.
“I am honored to be part of an endeavor that further supports artistry and artists in Nashville,” Cash said. “I see no better place than The Factory at Franklin for a showing of art, whether it be classical, abstract, or musical, for that matter.”
The exhibit also includes work by singer-songwriter and producer Jim Messina, whose career spans more than five decades. His visual art offers another look at the creativity that has defined his work in music.
Local artist Madeline Kiel is also featured in the installation. The Factory Gallery Wall is free and open to the public during The Factory at Franklin’s regular operating hours.
