The City of Brentwood is answering the call for improvements in traffic congestion with a series of transportation-related projects this year. Construction is underway at Granny White and Murray Lane, near Brentwood Middle School to improve traffic flow on southbound Granny White. A turn lane is being added adjacent to Brentwood Middle.
The project is expected to be concluded within the next few weeks. A second southbound to eastbound turn lane is being added to alleviate the back up that now happens when long lines of cars exceed the current lane capacity, preventing vehicles from turning into the Brass Lantern subdivision, or taking a right turn on Murray Lane.
The summer has been the perfect time to complete the construction project without the interference of school traffic. The goal is for all construction to be completed by the first day of school on August 7th.
The project, at a cost of $300,000, is but part of the $2.1M in small scale transportation-related improvements funded by the City’s 2016 Capital Improvements Program. This year’s slate of projects is heavily centered on transportation, an outcome of the 2020 Update to Brentwood’s Comprehensive Plan. For more detail on the projects to come, see p. 47 of the Capital Improvements Program here.
