Youth Fishing Rodeo Part of Free Fishing Day

On June 7th, the kids may be the ones putting dinner on the table.

Youth, 16-years-old and younger will be able to participate in The Youth Fishing Rodeo as part of the statewide Free Fishing Day. The event, hosted by The City of Fairview and Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA,) goes from 7 a.m. through 10 a.m., with registration beginning at 6:30 a.m.

The event will take place at Veteran’s Memorial Park at Evergreen Lake, where the TWRA will release hundreds of catfish into the lake, giving youth the first opportunity to catch the fish. At 10 a.m., prizes will be given away, including 700 dollars worth of fishing equipment. Additionally, the first 200 participants will receive a five dollar gift certificate to Dick’s Sporting Goods. Free hot dogs and bottled water will be given to participants, courtesy of the Fairview Publix.

Free Fishing Day allows anyone statewide to fish without a fishing license. It’s purpose is to expose more people to fishing, particularly youth. Free Fishing Day events have been held across Tennessee since the early 1990s, and the event in Fairview continues to grow every year.
