You Gotta See This: #HotDogPizza

I woke up yesterday morning, grabbed a cup of coffee, and hit Twitter to see what I could see. Imagine my surprise to see trending #HotDogPizza. This immediately gained my attention. I am a self admitted “man foodie.” I am not so much about pickled beet slaw on a 2 ounce piece of raw tuna, or even pretend to understand gluten free. I am about meat and potatoes and how many ways I can combine such things. Don’t get me wrong, I eat my fruits and veggies and have gotten more self conscious about what I put in my body, but sometimes a guy just has to be a guy. I am also a lover of hot dogs and pizza, so to me this trending made perfect sense.

hotdog pizzaI am not scared of trying anything once, or stepping up to a challenge (if you have ever been to 55 South and looked at the oyster hall of fame.. I am THAT Clark Shelton). So, I felt the need to sacrifice my gastral expertise for the better good of the public, and dive into a one topping (I didn’t go veggie) large hot dog bites pizza from the imagination of Pizza Hut.

With great anticipation and excitement, I made my order for delivery. Promised was a $11.49 deal of a Large Pepperoni Pizza made with a mini hot dog wrapped  pretzel crust. It’s like everything that is great about America and Baseball AND a side of mustard to dip my pretzel wrapped hot dog crust in. Admittedly, as a backup, I ordered Garlic Parm wings just in case.

It was an appetizer and a pizza. The pretzel and hot dog bites dipped in mustard took me to days at the ballpark. The pepperoni pizza was a good compliment. Two slices and I was full. Look, this isn’t something I would order every day, or even every week. But, for a comfort food or a nice “so I don’t have to cook” change of pace, it’s good. I could see this as popular at tailgates or Fantasy Football parties. Overall, I’d give it a strong “B.”
