The YMCA has announced the closure of the Harding Place and North Clarksville YMCAs. The Wadlington Tennis Center, a stand-alone warehouse space located near the Donelson-Hermitage Family YMCA, will also cease operation. Harding Place and North Clarksville are scheduled to close on or before May 15; the Wadlington Tennis Center will close by June 30.
As part of a restructuring announcement, YMCA also announced plans to make a strategic reinvestment in the Donelson-Hermitage Family YMCA. This expansion will increase their capacity to serve more members, including those displaced by the Harding Place closure, many of whom already utilize the Donelson location.
While the facilities impacted by this announcement helped thousands of people invest in their kids, their health and their neighbors over the years, they had combined annual operating losses in excess of $850,000. Given current economic circumstances and financial commitments, the Y is no longer able to support these operating losses.
“Like every nonprofit organization, the YMCA has a responsibility to monitor the financial sustainability of all of our operations to ensure the Y remains fiscally strong. An ongoing focus on sustainability is a critical part of good stewardship, so it’s always top-of-mind for us. As conditions in our communities change, the Y has to be willing to change, too, in order to preserve our Y for future generations,” reads an official statement.
Members of the North Clarksville and Harding Place centers will receive free, one-month passes to use any of the other 16 centers in the YMCA of Middle Tennessee association following the closure of their facility. They will then have the option to have their membership transferred to a new “home center.” Members at the Wadlington Tennis Center will receive a complimentary one-month pass to the Maryland Farms YMCA Tennis Center in Brentwood.
Separate letters and emails have been sent to members at each of the affected facilities informing them of these membership options.More Health & Fitness Stories
