Wrestling: Rounds of the Day

Summit’s Chris Bartol and Ravenwood’s Alex Omessi have both been selected as the Williamson Source’s Round of the Day winners from Day 1 at the TSSAA Wrestling Individual State Tournament.

Omessi, a senior, pinned Heritage freshman Javier Salvador 37 seconds into the second round of his opening-round match. He went on to lose in the round of 16 to Wilson Central’s Perry Baltz 12-8.

Despite the falter, Omessi defeated Cordova’s Drequan Adams 13-7 in the consolation round and is still alive for a third-place finish at state.

Bartol is being awarded a Round of the Day in a lose. The Spartan rallied from down multiple points in the third round to tie the match before Wilson Central’s John Micha Jenkinson earned a reversal point with seconds remaining to advance in the winner’s bracket.

The Spartan went on to beat Bradley Central’s Jack Bandy in the consolation and is still in the running for a third place finish in the 182 weight class.
