WRESTLING: Summit Has Controversial Ending at Duals

In their first trip to the TSSAA State Duals Wrestling Championship, Summit was eliminated Saturday morning in controversial fashion.

The Spartans dropped the elimination match to Tullahoma 33-30, but coaches questioned the eligibility of a Tullahoma wrestler. As it turns out, there was an issue with his weight-in and he should not have been eligible to compete.

His three points he earned in the match turned out to be the separation in score and, if he had originally been ruled ineligible, Summit would have been awarded six points for the match.

Once the match was completed though, no errors could be corrected.

Summit fell to the eventually back-to-back Class AAA champions, Cleveland, in their opener Friday night.

Father Ryan had more than a solid showing in the Division II tournament, reaching the championship round before narrowly falling to Baylor 32-30.

Brentwood Academy was eliminated from the Division II bracket early, losing their first two matches, while Franklin Road Academy defeated Battle Ground Academy 47-24 in the Division II Invitational.
