Working Out Around the Holidays

The clocks are turning back, the days are shorter, and the weather is chillier. For some, this makes it more difficult to exercise. Energy levels feel lower and there is delicious food all around during this time of the year.

However, it is important to remember that your body still needs you to take care of it. The holidays tend to be more stressful. Stress may cause overeating, lack of eating, lack of sleep and irritable moods. Be sure to DO something. Even if you need to cut back on the number of days per week you work out, stay active. Instead of three days a week, maybe you can only manage two, or perhaps you can make the duration of your work outs shorter and keep the number of days the same. Whatever you choose to do, keep moving! The energy lift you receive from working out will give you more energy for the fun parties (and shopping!). You will also feel better about what you are eating, knowing you are still in the habit of hitting the gym.

It is important that you still enjoy this time, just be in control.

Also, think about how easy it will be to keep that New Year’s Resolution to keep in shape if you are already ahead of the game!
