Congratulations to the following students for representing Woodland at the Wililamson County Art Show at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts in Nashville: Ella Skaar, Kendall Kocian, Jake Rath, Alina Spatz, Mina Lagrange and Drew Fritts. Abby Burton, a sixth grader and winner of our school spelling bee, represented WMS at the Scripps Regional Spelling Bee on Saturday, placing 11th out of 97 students who competed in the bee on Saturday. Abby spelled sierra, knish, amicable, garibaldi, and fraulein to advance through round six of the competition. She did an outstanding job representing WMS.

Woodland Middle sixth grader Abby Burton placed 11th out of 97 students at the Scripps Regional Spelling Bee.

The Woodland Girl’s and Boy’s Swim teams claimed 1st place in the 2015 Middle School Championship Meet. The meet consisted of 55 public and private middle schools with a total of 671 swimmers. Their success is a result of great teamwork, practice and determination! Many swimmers had personal best times, making for a fun meet for everyone. Placing in the top eight among all schools in the finals and earning points for Woodland were the following swimmers: Avery Carpenter, Shannon Byrd, Valerie Bates and Savi Alwis placed 4th in the Women’s 200y Medley Relay; Jacob Cobb, Micah Engle, Matthew Carrico, Spencer Townes placed 1st in the Men’s 200y Medley Relay; Samantha Bates, Bella Dawson, Avery Carpenter, Savi Alwis placed 3rd in the Women’s 200y Free Relay; Spencer Townes, Andrew Grissom, Matthew Rigsby, Micah Engle placed 1st in the Men’s 200y Free Relay; Samantha Bates, Shannon Byrd, Allie Diaz, Valerie Bates placed 4th in the Women’s 400y Free Relay; Matthew Carrico, Matthew Rigsby, Robert Pyles, Jacob Cobb placed 1st in the Men’s 400y Free Relay; Avery Carpenter placed 5th in the Women’s 200y Free; Matthew Carrico placed 2nd and Matthew Rigsby placed 7th in the Men’s 200y Free; Valerie Bates placed 3rd in the Women’s 200y IM; Jacob Cobb placed 1st and Andrew Grissom placed 15th in the Men’s 200y IM; Samantha Bates placed 5th in the Women’s 50y Free; Spencer Townes placed 5th in the Men’s 50y Free; Valerie Bates placed 3rd and Savi Alwis placed 16th in the Women’s 100y Fly; Jacob Cobb placed 1st in the Men’s 100y Fly; Samantha Bates placed 9th in the Women’s 100y Free; Spencer Townes placed 2nd in the Men’s 100y Free; Avery Carpenter placed 9th in the 100y Backstroke; Micah Engle placed 2nd in the Men’s 100y Backstroke; Shannon Byrd placed 14th in the Women’s 100y Breast Stroke; Micah Engle placed 16th in the Men’s 100y Breast Stroke; Shannon Byrd placed 6th in the Women’s 500y Free; and Matthew Carrico placed 2nd and Matthew Rigsby placed 8th in the Men’s 500y Free.
