WMC’s Breast Health Center Receives Award

Williamson Medical Center (WMC) has received the 2015 Women’s Choice Award as one of America’s Best Breast Centers. This is an evidence-based designation reflecting exceptional clinical performance and women’s preferences.

Williamson Medical Center’s Breast Health Center has also been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology, and accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), which is a subsidiary of the American College of Surgeons.

By awarding facilities the status of a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, the ACR, which is the gold standard for radiology, recognizes breast imaging centers that have earned accreditation in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy and breast ultrasound, including ultrasound-guided breast biopsy.

Peer-review evaluations, conducted in each breast imaging modality by board-certified physicians who are experts in their field, have determined that WMC’s Breast Health Center has achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs.

“This accreditation means we have attained the highest level of quality,” said Director of Radiology Sharon Cooke. “This is an accreditation that centers strive for because it attests we have reached the highest level of care for our patients and our market. Patients can come here knowing we have reached that pinnacle of success.”

Phyllis Malyneaux was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer. Ironically, Phyllis had worked in the healthcare field for over 30 years, the last 7 years at Williamson Medical Center. In 2013, she found herself on the other side of her job–from Human Resources leader to patient. Watch her touching story below.
