Winners of Historic Franklin Photo Contest Announced

In honor of Preservation Month, the City of Franklin held the 2013 My Historic Franklin Photo Contest. The winning photos will be on display in the Starbucks downtown. Participation was strong and a total of 192 outstanding entries were received.

The city’s Facebook and Pinterest have been flooded with photos during the competition and fans voted for their favorites. The winners were Michael Wessner “Happy Harlinsdale” first place; Elliott Billings, “Carnton Plantation” second place and people’s choice with 294 votes; Walt Salyer, “Tree at Carnton” third place; and honorable mention winner, Tom Thomson, “Main Street.” The City’s Planning and Sustainability Department partnered with local photographer David Braud and Starbucks to show the top 20 photos. The first place photo will be framed and hung in City Hall. The top winning photos are also posted to the City’s Pinterest site at www.pinterest.com/cityoffranklin.

“This is the second year for this photo contest and the response has been amazing,” said City administrator Eric Stuckey. “We really received some beautiful photos of places and landscapes our citizens want to be preserved for future generations.” Preservation Planner Amanda Hall said, “The judging was difficult with so many quality photographs, and it was hard to narrow it down to the top 20.” All winners and sponsors were recognized at the May 14th BOMA meeting.
