Williamson Weekend: 5 Things to do This Weekend

1. Country Ham Festival

WHAT: Spring Hill’s annual Country Ham Festival returns this weekend, bringing music, entertainment, arts and crafts and of course ham and other succulent southern food to the Tennessee Children’s Home campus.

During the festival, there will be live music, hog calling, hot air balloon rides and monster truck rides. There will also be as many as 100 arts and crafts and local businesses there, as well as 20 plus food vendors.

2. Franklin Art Scene

WHAT: Franklin Art Scene returns this Friday. At this month’s Art Scene, the public is invited to contribute to a community painting of the Dr. McPhail building, which we know as Early’s Honey Stand. This month’s art scene, which marks the beginning of autumn in downtown Franklin, coincides with the Partners in Preservation: Main Streets Open House, which will take place at Landmark Community Bank located at 198 E. Main St. and encourages participants to “vote your Main Street.” Franklin has been chosen as one of 25 Main Street programs in the running to be awarded up to $150,000 in preservation funding. Franklin Art Scene is hosted by the Downtown Franklin Association on the first Friday of every month as a “tour of the arts.”

3. First-Ever TN Inter-Scholastic Polo Match

WHAT: In its second season, Franklin Polo Academy has not only brought some of the best arena polo players in the world to play in Franklin’s Tractor Supply Co. Arena at the Park at Harlinsdale Farm; it’s also now set to launch an inter-scholastic polo program sanctioned by the U.S. Polo Association.

On Saturday, October 7, the public has a chance to be a part of history, as the newly established Tennessee team takes on the talented Bluewater Creek team of Killen, Alabama. Among the Nashville-area players are brothers Jacob and Zach Wallace of Station Camp High School in Gallatin and Cey Johnson of Page High School in Franklin.

Following the 3 p.m. inter-scholastic match, the professionals will take the arena, with the Windmill Title USA team taking on the Ashblue South Africa squad in a rematch of one of last year’s most exciting matches, when South Africa edged the USA team 10-7. The 2017 International Cup is presented by Carlock Motorcars.

4. Sunday Market

Sunday Market

WHAT: The Sunday Market returns to The Factory at Franklin this weekend. The Sunday Market will feature handmade goods designed by local artisans as well as high-quality vintage finds. Market admission is free, but guests are encouraged to learn about and support the community-focused non-profit highlighted.

5. A Walk in the Park Fundraiser

WHAT: The Citizens for Brentwood Green Space will host their third annual “A Walk in the Park” fundraiser to support Brentwood’s Marcella Vivrette Smith Park. The non-competitive walk is not a pledge walk, it is not a race. Rather, it is a fun activity you can do with a club, with your family, or all by yourself! Fun activities, food, and live music are planned for all ages.The walk and festivities are open to any individual, family, or team.  Register as an individual (also add family members under individual) OR as a team.

The event brings our community together while supporting a terrific cause – Brentwood Green Space! All proceeds minus the cost of the event will go toward amenities and improvements at Marcella Vivrette Smith Park.
