1. Bethlehem United Methodist Fish Fry

WHAT: Join the biggest backyard party where over 1,800 pounds of fresh catfish will be served at the 44th BUMC Fish Fry on Friday, July 20 in the Grassland Community of Franklin at Bethlehem United Methodist Church on the shaded grounds located at 2419 Bethlehem Loop Road off Hillsboro Road.

Tickets for adults are $10 in advance at the church and $13 the day of the event. Children 10 and under are always $6 and children under three are free!  Hot dogs are available for children and a separate carryout serving area is provided. 2. Bluebird on the Mountain Concert Series

WHAT: Celebrate the 15th cooperative Bluebird concert season at the Dyer Observatory in Brentwood. Artists for July 21, 2018, are Erin Enderlin, Levi Lowery, and Erik Dylan.

On one of the tallest hilltops in the area Bluebird on the Mountain concerts are scheduled around glorious sunsets on the portico of the Vanderbilt Dyer Observatory. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs, food, and drink and relax on the Observatory’s front lawn to enjoy a fabulous evening of sunset, music, and stars. After the performance, when the stars begin to shine, the telescope is opened for visitors to cap their night with views of the celestial world. Individual tickets are available online here.

WHAT: Let’s Talk Taco! With Chef Carla, students will be learning safe food handling, cooking techniques, use of different tools, some knife skills, and exploring spices. Beef Tacos, Guacamole & No-Fry Fried Ice Cream is on the menu. Ages 9-15. Students will leave with recipes, made from scratch taco seasoning, and full bellies. Reserve a spot for the class online.

4. “See and Sing” Rent Presented by Nashville Opera

WHAT: This July 22, take a trip to New York City (by way of Franklin Theatre) with a “see and sing” version of Rent, the fan-favorite movie musical. This riff on Puccini’s La bohème goes down in the East Village circa 1989 and follows the adventures and plights of eight intertwined Bohemians as they explore sexuality, drug culture, and life with HIV. The Tony Award-winning musical comes to cinematic life with a standout soundtrack and cast stacked with Broadway’s finest.

Come as you are, or dress up in your 80s and 90s NYC streetwear and hop in the photo booth before the show. They will have subtitles rolling so you won’t miss a word when belting out “La Vie Bohème,” “Take Me or Leave Me,” or any of your other favorite cuts. Purchase tickets online here.

5. All Things Lavender

WHAT: Alla Prima Painting Party is teaming up with Amy Davis to bring you a special night of painting and essential oils. This painting event will feature the beloved lavender oil.

What does this mean exactly? You will be painting a picture of the cutest bundle of lavender while enjoying all things lavender – think lavender scones, lavender tea and more. To top it off, every registrant will go home with their very own painting and a sample of premium lavender essential oil! Class registration is available online here.
