Williamson Parks and Rec Organizing December Events

The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department invites area seniors (55 and older) to join the fun on a Dec. 14 trip to The Hermitage, historic home of President Andrew Jackson.

Walk through the life of Jackson on a tour of The Hermitage, a must-see attraction for Middle Tennessee. Guests will explore the grand home and farm called the ‘third best presidential site’ by USA TODAY and enjoy a new exhibit and visitor experience called ‘Born for the Storm.’

After the tour, the group will lunch at Hadley’s Southern Kitchen (Dutch treat).

The trip is $35 per person and includes transportation and admission. Pick up times and locations are as follows:

Participants must register in advance, either online at www.wcparksandrec.com (event code #8405), by phone or in person. No messages allowed. Registration ends Dec. 9 or when the trip is full.

Therapeutic Recreation programs

The Therapeutic Recreation programs offered by Williamson County Parks and Recreation provide year-round leisure activities for individuals with developmental disabilities.

Therapeutic programs are led by specialists who assist people with disabilities to develop skills and knowledge for daily living and community involvement. Recreation specialists conduct monthly ongoing programs at three locations: the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd.; the Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill, 2909 Commonwealth Dr.; and the Williamson County Recreation Complex at Nolensville, 7250 Nolensville Rd.

All programs are open to the public.

Holiday Karaoke Party

Croon some tunes on Thursday, Dec. 15 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the annual holiday karaoke party presented by the Therapeutic Rec division (for young adults and older) at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd.

Bring along a favorite holiday CD and enjoy singing seasonal favorites. A dinner of sandwiches and salad is included. The cost to attend is $6 per person.

This is a PALS program and a caregiver is required to register and stay with those needing support.

POTLUCK & BINGO

Therapeutic recreation participants are invited to enjoy free potluck and bingo from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Dec. 1 – Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd.
  • Dec. 7 – Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill, 2909 Commonwealth Dr.

Participants (young adults and older) should bring a dish to share. Meat and drinks will be provided.

Pre-registration is required before Dec. 1 at www.wcparksandrec.com. This is a PALS program with caregivers required to stay with those needing support.

REINDEER GAMES

Enjoy holiday themed relay races and activities on Games Galore night, Thursday, Dec. 8 at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

This therapeutic rec program is for young adults and older, and the cost is $6. A pizza dinner will be served. This is a PALS program with caregivers required to stay with those needing support. Caregivers wishing to eat are asked to register and pay the program fee.

SPECIAL CARE SITTING SERVICE

Parents of special needs children can enjoy the use of the facilities at the Williamson County Recreation Complex at Nolensville, 7250 Nolensville Rd. while children (ages 6 to 23) are supervised by a therapeutic recreation specialist.

This special service is scheduled for 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a 1.5-hour time limit on Dec. 13 and 20.

PARENTS’ NIGHT OUT

The Williamson County Recreation Complex at Nolensville, 7250 Nolensville Rd., offers a monthly parents’ night out program for children ages 6 to 17 with special needs.

A certified recreation therapist will supervise and coordinate activities. Dinner will be served, and siblings are welcome to attend.
