Williamson County Schools has suspended a teacher following a “concerning” social media post about Charlie Kirk over the weekend, WSMV reported Monday.
The district confirmed that the employee has been placed on leave pending an investigation, noting that suspensions are a standard procedure under Tennessee state law.
In a statement, WCS said, “Expressions that glorify or trivialize violence, especially in moments of a national tragedy, are inappropriate and unacceptable. They do not reflect the values of Williamson County Schools and undermine the trust and unity we strive to build in our community.”
Superintendent Jason Golden also sent a message to staff Saturday, reminding them to be mindful of their words during a time of heightened emotions. “Words matter,” he wrote, urging educators to lead with “empathy, compassion and decency” in how they communicate.
The post came in the wake of the September 10 fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk, who was killed while hosting an open forum at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. Kirk was the CEO and co-founder of Turning Point USA and became a prominent conservative figure known for engaging audiences across the political spectrum.
