Livestock is always a huge part of the Williamson County Fair and this year is now exception. There are always winners and loser in every bracket and the fair tries to keep it competitive. “Friendly competition is the goal while setting an example of good sportsmanship for our youth,” says Willis Gilliam Livestock Chairman.

Gilliam says you don’t want to miss the Beef Show on Friday the 3rd and Saturday the 4th. They are really something special. Also you will want to see this year’s Goat Show on Tuesday the 7th. Williamson County is one of the top 10 beef producing counties in Tennessee.

Tennessee ranks 2nd to Texas in the number of beef goats produced & this stands as the fastest growing segment of the livestock industry in the state.

Many people and organizations are at work behind the scenes throughout the year to help bring the Williamson County Fair to residents. “The Polled Hereford Association, American Dairy Goat Association, national organizations as well as local clubs, working with the TN Ag Extension office to educate the public, and to provide volunteers with agricultural backgrounds from Williamson County are keeping agriculture alive on a day-to-day basis,” explained Gilliam.

Field Crops, Honey, Horticulture, Organic Fruits & Vegetables and Wine are all under inspection and vying for top placement. The entries are vast and coming in from across the county. Gilliam said the best part of working with the fair was “working with the kids in the Junior shows within the livestock division.” There is something for everyone so come check it out!

The Williamson County Fair runs from Friday, August 3rd to Saturday, August 11th.
