Williamson County Animal Center’s (WCAC) new Meow Manor will be featured on “Save Our Shelter,” a Saturday morning program on the CW television network (WNAB) on January 30 at 10:30 a.m. “Save Our Shelter” follows show creator, pet expert Rocky Kanaka, along with renovation specialist, Rob North, as travel across the country to help breathe new life into animal shelters and rescue facilities.
Shelter director, Laura Chavarria states, “In August 2015, we were contacted by the producers of “Save Our Shelter.” We pitched our idea for adding a free-roaming cat room, and we were chosen.” She added, “We had been discussing developing a new cat area at the shelter for over two years, but the cost proved prohibitive for us. ‘Save Our Shelter’ came along at exactly the right time!” Chavarria stated that the project was fully funded by PetSmart Charities and “Save Our Shelter.”
Series star Rocky Kanaka and his team came to the shelter in September 2015 and completed the project in one week. Chavarria added, “We are thrilled with the results. In addition to the new free roaming cat area, ‘Save Our Shelter’ also gave us new lobby chairs, art work and an electronic sign.” Chavarria said the new cat area helps promote adoption by eliminating stress in the cats and allowing natural behaviors like climbing. “There is even a small attached outdoor area where they can soak up the sun.”
