Will TSSAA’s Postponement of Girls Tournament Affect Locals in Next Week’s Boys Event?

Due to weather conditions, all TSSAA girls state basketball games scheduled for today have been postponed.

Contests scheduled for today will resume Friday at 11 a.m.

This rescheduling will not affect next week’s boys state tournament where locals Brentwood High School and Christ Presbyterian Academy will be competing.

Rounds will only be pushed back one day from where originally scheduled, with the TSSAA having a slight alteration Saturday to adjust for a Middle Tennessee State University women’s basketball game scheduled for 10 a.m. That day’s action will begin at 1:30 p.m.

“There is no way that we are willing to put any student-athlete’s life in jeopardy in order to try to play a basketball game,” stated TSSAA Executive Dirctor Bernard Childress. “To us, the safety of the student-athletes, coaches, fans, and anyone attending or participating in the state basketball tournament is first and foremost.”

There is a small buffer between the end of the girls and beginning of the boys tournament, but further postponement could affect the boys tournament scheduled to begin March 11.
