Wild Game Tasting at Spring Hill Library

The Spring Hill Library is hosting a unique event to give folks a chance to taste wild game and find out why they might want to consider it as a regular meal option. On Saturday, January 23 from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., the community is invited to sample wild game such as bear, boar, and venison. Some will be prepared by home cooks but most of it will be prepared by restaurant chefs from The Homestead Manor and Puckett’s Boat Housewild game tasting

The idea originated out of learning about the overpopulation of deer in Tennessee. “My husband is an avid hunter and he came back from hearing a talk given by a Maury County Wildlife Officer describing how deer are so plentiful it’s a problem,” said Marsha Gallardo, Children’s Librarian at the Spring Hill Library. “We thought that if folks could just taste wild game and we could connect them with hunters, maybe we’d help get some great, organic meat from the field to the table.”

There will be a panel of hunting enthusiasts speaking on the benefits of eating wild game and how to prepare it. Special guests include Andy Meldrum, local personality and host of “So You Think You Can Hunt,” local processors, Wildlife Officer, and local hunters.

If you are a hunter and would like to share your favorite recipe for venison or other wild game, call the library before next Saturday to sign up to bring in a dish to share (931.486.2932).
