After coming off of an incredibly relaxing weekend spent at the lake with our home group, I was yet again so overwhelmed with excitement to launch our Family Praise & Worship Service, Oikos in LESS THAN 2 WEEKS! Being surrounded by so many families spending quality time together laughing and playing on the water, I can’t help but relate that to time spent together as a family in praise & worship. My past time is people watching and this weekend was full of it. I watched families centered on laughter, love, and quality time, which is so important. However, imagine an environment where that same type of intimacy is shared together in praise & worship.
Watching a dad instruct his young daughter on the basics of wake boarding made me see such a connection to the importance of involving our children in worship alongside us. If worship is the heart of our life and our church, shouldn’t we be including and welcoming our children into that environment so that they’re able to learn and feel a sense of belonging within the church? The developmental aspect of assisting our children’s spiritual life to grow through experiencing God in praise and worship is even more rewarding than watching them stand up on the wake board for the first time. Children are constantly observing and taking in sensory information every second, why are we not taking advantage of that curiosity and eagerness to learn so that we, as parents, can be vessels in which the Lord moves to speak to His Children, our children.
Investing in the spiritual maturity of our children in every other area of their lives is key, for worship is a life style. Watching our children grow in the Lord following the biblical framework for spiritual headship within a family has me so incredibly excited to help lead this environment at Harpeth Community Church during our praise and worship time.
