Given that low-crime is often cited as one of the top reasons why Williamson County is a desirable place to live, it is no surprise that in a recent state-wide study three county cities were found to be among the top-10 safest in Tennessee.

The study, by Safe Home, made a list of the 25 safest cities in the state with a population of at least 30,000.

Brentwood topped this list, and is among the top 10 percent of safest cities in the country. With its population of 41,984 it has one police officer for every 590 residents. It had only 17 violent crimes and 367 property crimes in 2016.

Spring Hill, among the top 25 percent of safest cities in the country, was second on the list. With its population of 35,658, it has one police officer for every 659 residents. It registered 50 violent crimes in 2016 and 380 property crimes.

Germantown, Gallatin, and Collierville rounded out the top five.

Franklin was sixth safest. With its population of 72,696 people, it has one officer for every 487 people. It experienced 151 violent crimes and 1,058 property crimes in 2016.

Nolensville, Thompson’s Station and Fairview were not considered because they all have populations below 30,000.

Of note, other middle-Tennessee cities made the top 25.

La Vergne was tenth, Smyrna 11th, Murfreesboro was 15th, and Nashville itself was 18th

Memphis was listed as the 25th safest.
