What’s Happening in WCS

Williamson County Schools

These are some of the highlights from the Williamson County School System (WCS) as reported over the past week.

Chapman’s Retreat Elementary
In support of reading, students are selling magazine subscriptions beginning the week of September 16th. Students visited Hatcher Dairy on September 12th, more than 130 of them, and learned how milk gets from cow to the store. September 21st is grounds clean up day from 8 a.m. to Noon, volunteers are appreciated. On the 27th the 2nd grade class will visit Sam Davis Home in Smyrna and make a day of it, join your student if you can. Parent teacher’s conferences are September 30th through October 4th.

Brentwood Middle
Wednesday the 25th, the 6th grade has a POGS meeting at 9 a.m. in the cafeteria. The Cross Country WMAA meet is that day at Hillsboro, and Golf vs. Freedom and Grassland will happen. The 7th and 8th grade dance is Friday the 27th.

Congratulations to the BMS varsity volleyball team who went undefeated on September 14th at the BGA volleyball tournament.  They took home the first place trophy in the Gold Division

Grassland Elementary
Grandparents Day will be September 20th. Join students for lunch and a peek into their classrooms.

Grassland Middle
Grassland Middle School is holding their annual Fan Fest on Friday, September 26th during the Grassland Middle vs. Brentwood Middle varsity football game. There will be lots of food, inflatables, and prizes including a trip to Destin and a set of tires from Gateway Tire. Kick off for the game is at 5:00pm. Food from Nashville Pizza, Stroud’s BBQ, and Ellie’s Doughnuts and activities will begin at 4:00pm. The community is invited to come out to support GMS athletics.

Summit High
Summit High School will hold a Financial Aid Night on October 1st at 6:30 p.m. A representative from the Tennessee student Assistance Corporation will discuss FAFSA, the HOPE Scholarship and other government financial aid opportunities. This is event is free and open to the public.

The SHS HOSA team, consisting of eight students, went to the National Leadership Conference over the summer and returned with several awards.  The Medical Reserve Corps team consisting of Savannah Elliott, Kelly Meade, Justin Marsee, and Madison Blackstock finished in the top ten in the nation.  Arianna Ackerman competed in Prepared Speaking. Last year she finished in the top ten, and this year she finished first in the Nation.  Summit’s Health Science Teachers and HOSA sponsors are Christina Isong and Denise Asbury.

Woodland Middle
Beta Club has begun tutoring every Thursday after school from 3:00-4:00 p.m. Interested students should stop by Mrs. Katie Fall’s room for additional information. Yearbook orders can now be placed. Online: www.yearbookordercenter.com Phone: 1-866-287-3096. The Varsity volleyball team placed second at the BGA tournament. Carly Cooper had 23 serves against Ensworth, and the team had key wins against JT Moore, BGA, Ensworth, Guntersville and Lipscomb Academy, but fell short to Brentwood in the championship.

Allendale Elementary
Allendale students are excited about the Book Fair coming to the Allendale library next week, September 23rd – 27th. The library will transform into a Reading Oasis; a cool place for students to find some hot new books. The Book Fair will be open for shopping during school each day as well as a couple of special events. Food Truck Family Night will be Tuesday, Sept. 23rd from 3:30-7:00. Families can come grab something to eat and shop for new books. Pastries for Parents will be Friday morning from 7:45-8:30. The Book Fair will close at 1:00 on Friday.
