Because there is so much going on around the county at the Parks and Rec, we have decided to just run a thread every month to keep up with all that is going on! Here is September’s thread:

 

Franklin and Brentwood:

SMALL GROUP TRAINING IS A WIN FOR EVERYONE
Now Offered in Brentwood and Franklin

Small group personal training is a win for the trainer and the client. Sessions that feature one trainer with 6-8 clients combine the camaraderie and energy of group exercise with the personalized attention of one-on-one training. Trainers can help a greater number of people meet their health and fitness goals while clients enjoy lower costs as they benefit from tailored training and skill development. Williamson County Parks and Recreation’s Small Group Training (SGT) program at the Indoor Arena at Crockett Park, 1485 Volunteer Pkwy. now offers training sessions Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. Also, on Monday and Wednesday at 9:30 a.m., try GRIT-30 minutes of intense training with a coach. Walk-ins are $15 per session and the first session is free. Classes are limited in size and certified trainers provide motivation and personal instruction.

Franklin:

SPOOKS & COUPES
NEW Halloween event debuts at Franklin Recreation Complex

Williamson County Parks and Recreation will present a new community Halloween event called ‘Spooks and Coupes’ on Saturday, October 18 at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd. This brand new format will feature over 30 classic cars (coupes) with trunks full of treats! Families and kids alike are encouraged to wear their costumes as they trick-or-treat along the trail behind the recreation center. Then, visit with favorite Disney villains in the Haunted Forest, or make something ghoulish in the Halloween craft tent. There will be free entertainment throughout the evening, free face painting plus fun inflatables! If you get hungry, delicious food truck concessions will be for sale (add’l cost).

Spooks & Coupes is one night only, Saturday, October 18 and from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. This family event is open to the public, and admission is $6 per person (cash). Franklin:

JOIN SENIORS ON HAUNTED FRANKLIN TOUR

The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department invites area seniors (55 and older) to join the fun on October 16 for a Haunted Franklin tour.

Learn about the history of Franklin, plus all the legendary haunted locations in the downtown area on this one and ½ hour walking tour. This guided tour requires pre-registration, and will meet at 305 Public Square, in front of the old courthouse on the public square at Main St. and Third Ave. at 5:45 p.m.

The cost is $12 per person and space is limited. Registration for the event may be made in person at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd., or by speaking with the receptionist at (615) 790-5719, ext. 2010; or at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Dr. in Spring Hill, (615) 302-0971, ext. 2210 or 2220. Thompson’s Station:

COMMUNITY INVITED TO ANNUAL “TOUCH A TRUCK”!

TAT 9-19-14Don’t forget to mark your calendars for one of Williamson County Parks and Recreation’s biggest special events of the year! The annual “Touch a Truck” event will be held on Saturday, October 11 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot of Thompson’s Station Church, located at the intersection of Thompson’s Station Road and Columbia Pike. Kids of all ages will have the opportunity to look at, climb on and sound all the bells and whistles on nearly 30 different kinds of large scale construction and public service vehicles. Take a ride on the D&H Railroad for just $1 per ride. Kids can also paint a toy vehicle to take home at the free craft tent and check out a variety of entertainers on the performance stage, such as musicians, magicians, and dancers! Door prizes will also be given away with cool items such as motorized kid’s vehicles and more. This is a great, hands-on opportunity for children and adults to explore all types of BIG vehicles. This event is for all ages to enjoy! Admission to the event is free; though cost is incurred for concessions.

FRANKLIN :

REGISTER NOW FOR MEN’S BASKETBALL LEAGUES
Registration ends October 3

The Athletics Division of Williamson County Parks and Recreation announces open registration for 2014 adult basketball leagues at Academy Park Gym, 114 Everbright Ave. in Franklin. The leagues begin in mid-October and divisions are as follows: Mondays, Men’s D1; Tuesdays, Men’s D2; Thursdays, Men’s 35 and over.

The league fee is $475 per team. Leagues will play a round robin format followed by a single elimination tournament. League registration ends October 3. FAIRVIEW:

  • The Fairview Recreation Complex, 2714 Fairview Blvd., will be resurfacing all of the facility’s wood floors at the end of this month. Williamson County Parks and Recreation’s efforts to keep the center in good condition will result in some closures.The gymnasium will be closed Monday, September 29 through Friday, October 3, 2014. The entire facility will be closed Monday, September 29 at 12:00 noon through Tuesday September 30. FRANKLIN, BRENTWOOD, SPRING HILL:

  • The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department has immediate openings for part-time lifeguards at its indoor pools in Franklin, Brentwood and Spring Hill. Schedules are flexible, and wages are competitive. Early morning, mid-day afternoon and evening hours are available. Anyone age 15 or older may apply.

The positions require current Red Cross Lifeguard and CPR/AED certification. For more information

FRANKLIN:

  •  The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department will offer an Adventures in Low Ropes course for ages 11 to 15 at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road. This Fall Break course is Monday, October 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Participants will engage in team-building activities and games before taking on the ropes course, which contains elements a maximum of 2 to 3 feet off the ground. The course challenges groups to work together, listen to one another and solve problems in order to achieve goals.Adventures in Low Ropes is $30 per person, and includes lunch. Thompson’s Station :

  • The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department continues its free community band outdoor concert series at charming Thompson’s Station Park, 1513 Thompson’s Station Road West. This delightful family friendly event will begin at 5 p.m. promptly, with gates opening at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 21 and features a talented group of local volunteer musicians. The Williamson County Community Band plays a variety of music including marches, concert pieces and jazz under the expert direction of band leader Ken Krause. Gather your family and friends, lawn chairs and blankets and come on out for a lovely evening filled with great music! FAIRVIEW REC CENTER NEWS 9/15:

  • JAZZERCISE Burn up to 600 calories in one fun and powerfully effective 60-minute total body workout. Every Jazzercise group fitness class combines dance-based cardio with strength training and stretching to sculpt, tone and lengthen muscles for maximum fat burn. Jazzercise is a fusion of jazz dance, resistance training, Pilates, yoga and kickboxing.   • FAIRVIEW SENIORS GROUP The Fairview Senior Citizens Group meets every Tuesday and Thursday in the Senior Room at the Fairview Recreation Complex, 2714 Fairview Blvd. Rook players meet before the 10:30 a.m. Bingo game. A pool table is also available before and after the meetings. A covered dish luncheon is held on the first Tuesday of each month; and lunch is catered in or the group plans a lunch out on the third Thursday of each month.   • TEEN AND ADULT POTTERY  Students will work on hand built pieces as well as thrown pieces.   • FAIRVIEW YOUTH BASKETBALL Registration is going on now and will continue through October 4, 2014 for Williamson County Parks and Recreation’s Fairview Youth Basketball League for ages 5-17 years old. A late registration will run from October 6-11and will include a late fee. Practices will begin the week of November 3 at Westwood and Fairview Elementary. There will be a uniform try-on day on Saturday, October 11 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. The registration fee is $65 and the uniform fee is $27. Young spirits ages 2 to 12 (accompanied by an adult) will enjoy this spooky night of fun on Saturday, October 18 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Join us on this ghostly evening with your favorite spook while enjoying carnival games, costume contests, prizes and more! At the end of the night, you can take part in our massive balloon drop where over 2000 balloons filled with goodies drop from the ceiling. Pre-registration is required, and the cost is $6 per child. HILLSBORO-LEIPER’S FORK REC NEWS 9/15:

  • YOGA You don’t have to be in great shape to do Yoga! Instructor Suzi Ambar-Worrell leads students, ages 16 and up in stretching, toning and strengthening exercises to bring every “body” into great shape. This class meets on Fridays, ongoing from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the Hillsboro-Leiper’s Fork Community Center, 5325 Old Highway 96 West. The cost is $15 per class.   • GUITAR LESSONS
    Learn to play the guitar! Instructor Riley Walker has been teaching guitar for 15 years. His fun lessons are specially designed for beginners. Students ages 9 and up can learn the basic techniques needed to play songs in a variety of styles. Thirty-minute lessons are available on Tuesdays, from 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. or 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Hillsboro-Leiper’s Fork Community Center, 5325 Old Highway 96 West. LONGVIEW REC NEWS FOR 9/15

  • There is still time to register for Williamson County Parks and Recreation’s Duck River canoe outing on Saturday, September 27, 2014; departing from the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. Staff members will attend and supervise the ride and River Rat’s Canoe Rental will coordinate. This is an all-day trip for youth ages 11 to 15. The group will depart at 8:00 a.m. and return at 5:00 p.m., and space is limited. Participants should wear a swimsuit, tennis shoes and sunscreen. Please bring a lunch, drink, snack, change of clothes and a towel. The fee is $30 per person.   • Williamson County Parks and Recreation would like to remind you that Toddler Tales and Trails continues this month with more story time fun for parents and toddlers ages 18 months to 4 years old. This extra special activity will be held outdoors on Tuesday, September 16 and Thursday September 25 from 10-11 a.m. at Harvey Park, 4001 Miles Johnson Parkway in Spring Hill. Story time will be followed by a fun activity. Parent participation is required. Bring a blanket to sit on for story time, and feel free to bring a snack. Strollers are permitted. No pets please!   • PIANO & VOICE LESSONS Private weekly piano or voice lessons for beginning or intermediate students offered by James Weinberg at the Indoor Sports Complex, 920 Heritage Way in Brentwood. Piano is offered for ages 4 through adults, and voice is offered for ages 7 through adults. Learn note reading skills, music theory and artistic technique using a variety of styles.
