If you’re an Alabama fan, you’ve probably heard of the alcoholic beverage The Yellowhammer (also known as Alabama Slammer).

So how did this vodka, rum drink become associated with The Crimson Tide?

Essentially, the Yellowhammer is named after Alabama’s state bird. “Legend has it that the Alabama Slammer originated as a beverage of choice among fans in the 1970s,” writes saturdaydownsouth.com. At this point in The Crimson Tide’s career, head coach Bear Bryant was leading the Tide to multiple national titles.

The cocktail became so popular over the years, that Gallette’s, a bar in Tuscaloosa (and the closest bar to the stadium) reportedly sells 4,000-5,000 at every University of Alabama home game.

Although Gallette’s keeps their recipe a secret, the Yellowhammer is listed as a mix of vodka, rum, Amaretto, orange juice and pineapple juice.

This Saturday, enjoy a Yellowhammer with other local Alabama fans at Moe’s Original Bar B Que’s Alabama Watch Party.

Both Williamson County Moe’s BBQ locations will be hosting Alabama watch parties. Stop by either of the restaurants to enjoy great food, like Alabama pulled pork, wings and fried catfish. Moe’s is located at:
