Weekly Predators Report: Dropped to Third

The regular season is winding down and the Nashville Predators have dropped to third place in the Western Conference standings.

Having spent the majority of the season in first or second place, the Predators now find themselves trailing the Anaheim Ducks by three points and the St. Louis Blues by one with eight games remaining in the regular season.

This week’s schedule doesn’t do much to help the Predators, facing two of the best teams in the Eastern Conference (Montreal and Tampa Bay) along with having to face one of the best goal scorers in the NHL (Alexander Ovechkin) and Washington.

Nashville’s 3-6-1 record the last 10 games is the worst of any team currently qualifying for the playoffs.

There’s no fear of the Predators missing out on the playoffs, but the highest possible seed – and the home ice advantage that goes along with it – sure would be nice come playoff time. Only one team in the NHL has more wins in their home rink than the Predators – Tampa Bay – and they’re in the other conference.

Last Week’s Scores

Anaheim Ducks 4 Predators 2
Minnesota Wild 3 Predators 2 (OT)
Predators 3 Buffalo Sabres 0
