K9 Teams Excel at Trials with Six 1st Place Awards

Williamson County Sheriff’s Office K9 teams brought home 19 awards, including six 1st place trophies, after competing in the USPCA Region 13 certification trials in Clarksville, TN in May.

Twenty-seven teams, including teams from Indiana and Kentucky competed in five categories: obedience, agility, suspect apprehension, suspect search and evidence search.

Deputy Mike Grandy and K9 Nico: seven awards, including four 1st place, the Jimmy Anderson Memorial Award and 1st place overall with the highest combined scores from all events.

Corporal Debbie Rogers and K9 Bear: five awards, including 1st place in suspect search with a perfect score and 2nd place overall.

Deputy Shaun Stein and K9 Onyx: three awards, including first place in evidence search with a perfect score.

Deputy Chuck Castleberry and K9 Ammo: four awards, including 3rd place overall.

The WCSO K9 teams are trained by Lt. Carl Smith (retired), Franklin Police Department. All four teams are trained for patrol. K9 Onyx is also being trained in explosive detection while K9s Bear, Nico and Ammo are also trained in narcotics detection.
