Three Williamson County Schools are getting the honor of decorating the Governor’s Residence for the Tennessee’s Home for the Holidays open house event.
Fairview Middle, Fairview High and Mill Creek Middle were all selected to create ornaments that represent the iconic sights and experiences of Tennessee. Each year, the Governor’s Residence is open for self-guided tours to see holiday decorations centered around a theme. This year’s theme is Tennessee Tourism.
“The Department of Education recommended Mill Creek Middle School as a school with a great art program that might be able to assist with the decoration,” said Mill Creek Middle art teacher Elizabeth Perthel. “The seventh and eighth grade art students rose to the challenge.”
Each school decorated ornaments which display important parts of the state, including the Smokies, Boy Scouts and Knoxville riverboats.
“It is such an honor for Fairview Middle art students to be a part of the First Lady’s Tree Display,” said Fairview Middle art teacher Michelle Vinci. “We had fun creating the ornaments during the art classes.”
Self-guided tours of the Governor’s Residence are available between December 13-16. They are free, but guests are asked to register beforehand on the Tennessee Home for the Holidays page. Hours for the tour are listed below.
- December 13-14: 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
- December 15: 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
- December 16: 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
