WCS Posts Highest ACT Scores in District History

Williamson County Schools

In a celebration held last week, the Williamson County Schools (WCS) district announced a composite ACT score of 23.4 up from 23.1. This is the highest composite achievement in district history. Brentwood High School posted the highest among WCS with a 25.4 composite average.

Middle College showed the most improved scores with a 20.5 up from 19.1. All county high school improved from last year’s average scores. Preparing for college is a focus of WCS and the results of their focus are obvious. Students set high marks in regards to college and career readiness benchmarks. Of the four benchmarks measured, 40 percent of graduates met all of them last year as they moved on from high school. That percentage is a vast improvement over the national level of 26 and the state level of 18.

“Our success story is evidence of what can happen when local control works in a school district where taxpayers, parents, students and communities work together to do what is right,” said Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney. “The good news is: we’re just getting started. We haven’t hit our full stride yet, and the best days are still to come.” Rumor has it the district is focused on a composite score of 25 this year. Wish them luck.
