WCS In Focus

The latest issue of the Williamson County Schools (WCS) online newsletter In Focus had a lot to report. Announcements of the Testing Schedule were released as well as recognition of five schools ranked among the Nations’ best. According to the US News and World Report’s annual listings, Brentwood High, Ravenwood High, Franklin High, Page High and Independence High all made the 2013 list of America’s Best High Schools.

We were reminded that the out-of-transportation-zone deadline is approaching and that parents only have until May 15th to complete and submit the forms. We also got to see what the Computer Aided Design (CAD) class at Centennial High has been working on this year. Sixteen students rose to the challenge of recreating the Franklin Town Square. “We began by going to the square and taking measurements,” said CHS Student Allison Bruning.  “I sketched out some of the objects while other students called out measurements.”

The students then divided the workload and conquered it during lunch and after school. The students then used a program called Inventor to turn the two dimensional objects they had created into 3-D images.  When they were finished, the students used the school’s 3-D printer to print off a prototype before printing the finished product. Take a look at the whole story here.
