The Williamson County Schools Communications Department is being recognized with a top national honor, the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) Gold Medallion Award.

The district earned the award for its Golden Mentors campaign, a program highlighting the invaluable role senior volunteers play in supporting students and literacy in our Spring Hill area schools. WCS Assistant Director for Community Engagement April Jackson accepted the award at the 2025 NSPRA Seminar in July. The Gold Medallion Award recognizes outstanding communication and programs.

“We believe our senior citizens are an invaluable resource, and our goal for this program was to find a way to connect them with our elementary students in a way that benefited both groups,” said WCS Executive Communications Director Carol Birdsong. “Our focus has been on literacy, but in this first year, our seniors and schools have already expanded opportunities. We can’t thank our elementary department enough for embracing and supporting this program, and we look forward to seeing what this next year holds.”

After a successful first year, the Golden Mentors program will resume this fall in the Spring Hill area schools. Those interested in volunteering should email [email protected] for information about how to get involved.
