WCS Calendar Change Approved

According to the 18th issue of In Focus the Tennessee Commissioner of Education granted the request of the Williamson County Board of Education to change their calendar on April 15th. The idea is to use stockpiled inclement weather days for professional development at the end of the school year.

“We welcome the opportunity to have all teachers looking at the Common Core implementation plan for next year before they leave for the summer,” said WCS Professional Development Coordinator Laurette Carle.  “Elementary teachers will also have an opportunity to be introduced to their newly adopted reading program for use in the fall to help them with planning for a strong start next year.  Most teachers will continue this learning at various professional development activities during the summer in smaller, more focused groups.”

The school year for students will end with a full day on Tuesday, May 21.  The final day for teachers will remain the same, Friday, May 24, but teachers will spend Thursday, May 23 and Friday, May 24 in professional development. Classified employees, who are not 11 or 12 month employees, will be given the option to work or begin summer break early.
