The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree for Raelyn Nelson. Raelyn, granddaughter to legendary country singer Willie Nelson, has been singing since she can remember. Having been raised on a steady diet of traditional country and gospel music, a gift from her grandpa in the form of a guitar during her teenage years was the inspiration she needed to begin writing her own country and folk songs. Although inspired by her grandfather, Raelyn has created her own modern day take on country music. She formed the Raelyn Nelson Band and in 2016 she and Hannah Fairlight decided to partner has an acoustic duo under the name mmhmm.

mmhmm has been described as “Americana pop” and their shows a “modern day hee-haw show.” Their self-titled album is out on June 8.

Just ahead of the album release, the duo will be performing June 1 at Puckett’s Grocery of Leipers Fork at 8 p.

The first single from the album “Aw Hell” was released with a video. ‘Aw Hell” is the first song Raelyn and I wrote together, sitting on my back porch in Inglewood, East Nashville,” Fairlight told Blurtonline.com.  “I guess we were just reflecting on real life circumstances and our coming to terms with them. Raelyn’s house burned down, which was INSANE.,. And it gave me and definitely Raelyn new perspective on everything.”
