Vigil, Funeral Arrangements Announced for Jim Cheek

Both a vigil and funeral for Centennial High School senior Jim Cheek will happen this weekend.

Centennial High School will have a vigil Friday night for its football and baseball player starting at 7 p.m. on the Performing Arts Theatre steps.

Visitation and a funeral will follow Saturday and Sunday.  Funeral services will happen 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, at Harpeth Hills Church of Christ. Jason Pagel and Chris Smith will officiate.

Kelley Tenpenny, Bill Dickerson, Tadd Brewer, Luke Smith, David Sciortino, Scott Hubbard, Doug Jones, Chad Jordan, Robert Page and Michael Lillicrap will act as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Centennial High School football and baseball teams along with the Harpeth Hills Youth Group Church League Boys Basketball Team. The family will hold a private graveside at Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-7 p.m. Saturday and 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the church.

James Edward “Jim” Cheek, Jr., 18, passed away Monday afternoon. He played both baseball and football for the Cougars. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed working with wood.

He is preceded in death by grandfathers, Dr. John C. Donaldson and James “Jim” Cheek.

He is survived by his parents, Ward and Lea Cheek; sister, Claire Cheek; grandparents, Frances Donaldson & Virginia Cheek; aunts and uncles, Johnny (Jean) Donaldson, Lenea (Craig) Ogletree, Libbi (Jason) Thompson, Camille (Richard) Lowe, Laurie (Barry) Omohundro, Suzanne (Jim) Hillin and Emily (Bryan) Ansley and other loving family members and many friends.

Memorials may be made to the Jim Cheek Memorial Fund, c/o Harpeth Hills Church of Christ, 1949 Old Hickory Blvd., Brentwood, TN 37027.

Friends and family can also donate to a GoFundMe account set up by two Centennial High School parents. All proceeds go to the Cheek family.
