Vandy Takes Game One In Super Regional

NASHVILLE, Tenn — Never had a five-run win felt more tense than it did on Friday afternoon. After taking a 10-0 lead through three, the Commodores had to hold off Stanford the rest of the way to get the 11-6 win.

Vandy loaded the bases in the top of the first then brought four runners around to score in the inning. In the bottom of the second the ‘Dores scored on a walk, sac fly and a fielders choice to extend the lead to 7-0.

The game seemed out of reach in when Vanderbilt added three more runs in the third making it 10-0 but a four-run top of the fifth got the Cardinals back in the game at 10-6.

Neither team would score again until Vandy pushed another run across in the seventh.

The win puts the Commodores one more win away from Omaha and the College World Series.
