Vanderbilt Win Easy in NCAA First Round

A seven-run sixth inning is what ultimately propelled the Commodores past Xavier in the first round of the NCAA Regionals in their 11-0 shellacking of the Musketeers.

Once Vandy loaded the bases in the sixth inning they scored in a variety of ways. Walks, balks and singles helped seven ‘Dores cross the plate and put the game out of reach with the visitors having just nine outs to work with.

Vanderbilt’s Xavier hit an RBI double in the fourth to get the scoring started and Vanderbilt added to the 1-0 when they scored on a wild pitch in the fifth.

The host team got a strong outing from Tyler Beede who struck out a total of 14 batters in eight innings for the shut-out win.

They will play Oregon tomorrow, who also won easy yesterday. The Ducks defeated Clemson 18-1 to start off the regional tournament in the Music City.
